This guide explains how to complete identity verification using Persona, our trusted identity verification provider. Identity verification is a one-time requirement that must be completed before you begin your first project.

Although verification is only required after you've been invited to your first project, in some instances you can complete it as soon as you've finished your application. Completing verification early can help prevent delays if you're later allocated to a project that requires it.

Note: The Persona interface may change over time as the product is updated, so the screens in this guide may differ slightly from what you come across. However, the overall verification process remains the same.

Verification Steps

1. Start identity verification

If you've been invited to a project, open the project from your dashboard.

If you haven't been invited to a project yet but would like to complete verification early, click the circle next to Verify your identity on your onboarding checklist. 

2. Begin the verification process

Click Begin verifying to start your identity verification.

3. Select your verification country

Choose the country that issued the government ID you'll use for verification.

4. Choose and upload your ID

Select one of the following government-issued photo IDs:

• Driver's license
• State ID
• Passport
• Permanent Resident Card

5. Continue on a device with a camera

The remaining steps require a device with a camera, such as a smartphone or tablet. Scan the QR code using your device to continue.

Before you continue:

• Have your chosen photo ID ready.
• Complete the verification in a well-lit area.
• Remove hats, sunglasses, or anything that obscures your face.
• Allow a few minutes to complete the process without interruption.

6. Take a photo of your ID

Tap the camera button to begin capturing photos of your ID.

When prompted, allow Persona to access your device's camera. Camera access is required to complete verification.

7. Capture your ID

Follow the on-screen instructions to take clear photos of the front and back of your ID (if applicable).

8. Take a selfie

After your ID has been captured, follow the prompts to take photos of your face for identity verification.

9. Finish verification

Once your identity has been successfully verified, you'll see a confirmation on both your mobile device and in the browser where you started the process.

Click Done to return to Handshake. From there, you can continue setting up your payout method or proceed to your project.
