Handshake AI Fellowship expectations

As a Handshake AI Fellow, you’re joining a community of contributors helping to shape the next generation of AI. The expectations below apply throughout your time in the program and across every project you participate in. They’re designed to help you understand how the program operates and what’s expected of you along the way.

Projects are completed independently. All work is done on your own time, letting you choose when and how much to contribute. We recommend jumping into a project as soon as you're allocated to one, as availability can change quickly.

Project and task availability is subject to change. Projects may start, pause, or end based on our partner labs' needs, sometimes with short notice. We'll share updates as early and clearly as possible, but some changes may be unavoidable.

Quality standards are high and project-specific. This work requires careful judgment and attention to detail — your contributions directly improve real AI systems. Each project has its own requirements, workflows, and quality standards, which will be clearly communicated in project details and training materials. These standards may evolve as our partner labs' research needs change. Fellows may be removed from a project if expectations aren't met.

Assessments may be required. Some projects require passing an assessment to confirm readiness or maintain quality. New assessments may be introduced as project needs evolve, and continued participation may depend on meeting them.

Fraud and community guidelines are taken seriously. Violations may result in removal from a project or from Handshake AI entirely. Work completed in violation of these guidelines may not be paid.
